Important note about weather

The date is rapidly approaching and we are excited to see everyone! Kim and I are tying up some loose ends and wanted to give a heads up about the weather this weekend. The weather channel is forecasting partly cloudy on saturday with a chance of rain and rain on sunday so please plan accordingly. Bring an umbrella or a rain jacket and your party hat, it should be a good time.

Important note about guests

We are lucky to be blessed with a lot of friends and family. Unfortunately, because of that our guest list is very tight. We would like to request that there please be no children or guests under the age of 21. We would also request that if you have a very special guest who you would like to bring and is not listed on your invitation that you ask one of us first, and be sure to RSVP for them on your reply card. Thank you for understanding, we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Old timey photos of the venue

Just found these on the Library of Congress, old old photos of the Venue. It has changed quite a bit, but its pretty cool to see how much it has changed and also remained the same.

Here is a brief history I copied from this website

Santa Margarita’s fertile valley and year-round flowing creeks led the Spanish padres to establish a farm with assistance from the Chumash Indian population, and in 1787 it was formally recognized as an outpost of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Just one day’s journey from San Luis Obispo and the San Miguel Mission, it was a convenient layover for travelers on El Camino Real. The Asistencia was built c. 1817, and is one of the first recorded uses of mortar in California. Animal hides—often used in place of money—were tanned with tallow rendered at the rock tallow vats, which are still in place at the creek’s edge. Other remnants of the Asistencia’s heyday are the adobes’ red tile roofs and a kiln. With Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1822 came the privatization of all mission properties, including the Asistencia.

Last Weekend

My mom came to visit last weekend and finalize the rehersal dinner plans at the apple farm. The trip was wonderful Kim’s parents came up and did some planning of their own.

I finally got to see the wedding location and was wonderfully surprised to see one of the most beautiful locations I have seen in California.

The barn at the ranch is built around an old foundation that was built in 1817 and was a layover on the old Camino Real. The building and the land has a rich history and is so far fascinating to read about.

Like this story from this website

There is an interesting story about “the Morgue Room” in the Priest Quarters. Joaquin Estrada’s ranch manager feared the Church would someday take control of the ranch due to the presence of a sacred building on the property. He decided to burn the Asistencia, but the rock walls wouldn’t take the flame. After this attempt, he decided to repent of his actions by building and sleeping in a coffin in one of the Priest Quarters. To this day this room had always been called the Morgue Room.

Two of my favorite photos

This is Kim and I on her dads boat, her doing most of the hard work. And the next one is when we snowshoed up to Morrow Rock in Sequoia National Forrest in the middle of a snow storm. Both were really great trips.
